...on North Carolina 5
The stagnant race to replace Cong. Richard Burr (R) in North Carolina's 5th District is about to get interesting. Former J.P. Morgan Managing Director Jay Helvey (R) is set to enter the contest and should generate some excitement among Republicans in the Tar Heel State and in Washington, D.C.
A Wake Forest and Columbia University graduate, Helvey is a former Fulbright Scholar who spent 15 years with J.P. Morgan before opening his own firm in Winston-Salem. Forsyth County Commissioner Pete Brunstetter, once mentioned as a possible candidate himself, will co-chair the campaign.
The April 25th edition of The Rothenberg Political Report details Helvey's candidacy, along with the entire North Carolina 5 race. It also looks at appointed-Sen. Lisa Murkowski's (R) chances for reelection in Alaska.
